Bridge to Work

Bridge to Work is a twenty-week full time education Programme offered through a tripartite partnership between The National Institute for Vocational Education, the National Human Resources & Development Authority (Tanmia), and employers in the United Arab Emirates. The partnership aims to provide education and training that will enable young nationals of the United Arab Emirates to acquire fundamental workplace skills that are crucial to successful employment in the United Arab Emirates.

Bridge to Work is divided into three phases:

  1. Foundations: English communications, number skills, information technology and key skills for Business.
  2. Specialisation: English communications, work ethics and skills for a particular job in areas such as Customer Services, Business Administration, Sales and Retailing.
  3. Work Experience: On-the-job training

Graduates of the Bridge to Work Programme are awarded two BTEC Diplomas accredited by Edexcel International. The first is a Diploma in Skills for the Workplace and the second is a Diploma in a specialisation such as Customer Services, Business Administration, or Retailing.

Graduates also receive the NIVE Diploma in Bridge to Work.

Admission

The Bridge to Work Programme is open to nationals of the United Arab Emirates. Admission to the Programme is based on performance on a diagnostic assessment test on basic skills in communication in English and on the use of numbers.

Employability Skills for the UAE

Communication for the Workplace

90 hours
Upon completion, the learner will be able to:
  1. Describe how private and public sector organisations are structured in Dubai.
  2. Explain the responsibilities of the individual in the workplace.
  3. Identify approaches to seeking employment.
  4. Demonstrate ability to plan straightforward work to achieve business objectives
  5. Work with others to identify and solve problems.

Upon completion, the learner will be able to:
  1. Investigate different types of communication.
  2. Demonstrate good oral communication skills in work-based situations.
  3. Demonstrate good written communication skills in work-based situations.
  4. Demonstrate communication skills in a culturally diverse environment in which English is not the first language.

Using Information Technology

30 hours

Numeracy for the Workplace

30 hours
Upon completion, the learner will be able to:
  1. Work in a windows environment with icons and desktop applications.
  2. Use word processing, spreadsheet, and presentation software.

Upon completion, the learner will be able to:
  1. Investigate numerical information in a business context.
  2. Perform business calculations.
  3. Explain the results of business calculations.
