Higher National Diploma in Jewellery Business Development

The Higher National Diploma (HND) in Jewellery Business Development is offered by Damas Jewellery Academy, an initiative of The National Institute for Vocational Education (NIVE) in the United Arab Emirates (UAE).

The programme reflects the balance of skills and knowledge needed to establish and manage a jewellery business in a professional way. Theory and practice are integrated in the programme in order to support both business prospects and professional progression. The programme prepares graduates to establish and manage their own jewellery businesses. Although the programme focuses on establishing a jewellery business in Dubai, graduates will be able to start businesses anywhere in the UAE or abroad. They will also be able to take up employment within the jewellery industry or work from home. The programme integrates work experience with five key facets of the jewellery business, namely: Entrepreneurship, Business Management, Jewellery Design, Gemmology, and Goldsmithing Technology and Practice.

Programme Goals

The Higher National Diploma in Jewellery Business Development will:

Impart an understanding of professional and industrial contexts of the jewellery business
Provide knowledge to ensure jewellery is of a high standard and meets clients expectations
Provide the essentials for jewellery design, including related product development
Impart essential knowledge of gemstone identification and valuation
Provide the essentials for workshop management, including related safety issues
Develop skills, techniques, personal qualities and attitudes essential for success in professional working life
Facilitate both independent work and teamwork to build an effective network in the workplace
Develop leadership skills.

The National Institute for Vocational Education (NIVE)

Admission Criteria

The Higher National Diploma programme is open to UAE national and non-national residents with a National Diploma or equivalent, with priority for admission given to sponsored UAE nationals. Admission to the programme is based on performance on a NIVE diagnostic assessment test for communication in English and mathematics.
